The Department of Veterans Affairs says it's closing old, unfilled jobs. Workers say hospitals that are already stretched thin will feel the consequences.

While unions and other employee advocates say that eliminating the positions will wreak further havoc on understaffed hospitals, the federal Veterans Administration says it won't mean a thing.

The Sun-Times reported this week that more than 600 open positions will be wiped out at the Jesse Brown VA and Lovell Federal Health Care Center.
